Peter was born in Cape Town, where he has lived all his life. He received a BSc from the University of Cape Town and a postgraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of South Africa.
Peter has worked as a manager and consultant for over 30 years, designing and developing customised database systems, and has been involved in various NGOs working in the fields of sustainable development and adult education. Through his work with the Rural Education Access Programme he was introduced to DOCKDA, and was invited to join the Board in 2010. He was elected chairperson in 2014, replacing the outgoing chairperson, Eugene Machimana.
Peter brings his experience of management and systems to the Board, as well as a desire to give something back to the society in which he grew up.
Carol obtained a BA (Human Ecology) from the University of the Western Cape in 1999. Based in Johannesburg, she has been active in the development sector for 20 years, working for a range of NGOs across South Africa. She is passionate about community development. Her special interest is in poverty eradication, and she has worked on business and development models in Mpumalanga. She joined the DOCKDA Board in 2013 and brings immeasurable expertise in community development and the NGO sector to the organisation.
Based in Cape Town, Nadeema has a BCom degree in Management from the University of the Western Cape. After completing her formal schooling in 1978, Nadeema entered the corporate world, joining Stocks & Stocks and later moving to Seeff Trust/Properties. In 1999 her professional career took a different direction when she was headhunted by the director of a Cape Town based NGO, the Gender Education and Training Network. Later, in 2007, she joined the Rural Education Access Programme, where she is responsible for financial management. As treasurer of the DOCKDA Board, Nadeema brings with her a wealth of experience in the financial field. Her passion for sound financial systems and sustainability ensures that DOCKDA achieves its goals.
Malibongwe Gwele has a BA (Hons) in Development Studies from the University of the Western Cape and Master's in Social Science from the University of Cape Town. He has been involved in a wide range of community development initiatives. He has worked in the NGO sector for more than 10 years, with most of those years spent working as a researcher and M&E officer in the field of Early Childhood Development (ECD). He has served as a board member in two other organisations.
Malibongwe joined the DOCKDA Board in 2014. He brings to the organisation extensive experience in stakeholder relations management, strategic engagement, monitoring and evaluation, community development, and a passion for rural and community development.
Dr Eugene G. Machimana
Dr Eugene G. Machimana completed a PhD degree at the Faculty of Education, Educational Psychology Department, at the University of Pretoria. Dr Machimana's educational qualifications include a Higher Diploma in Education from Giyani College of Education, a BA from Stellenbosch University, while he also completed Honours and Master's degrees in Social Behaviour Studies in HIV/AIDS through the University of South Africa. He joined the University of Pretoria's Faculty of Veterinary Science in August 2010 as their Community Engagement Coordinator. Dr Machimana originally hails from the Limpopo Province and he moved to Cape Town in 2001 to pursue higher education studies, and later to work there.
In 2007 Dr Machimana joined the DOCKDA Rural Development Agency Board. He brings a wealth of knowledge gained while working in the non-profit sector, in which he held various positions related to community development, for just over a decade. He is passionate about serving DOCKDA and sharing his expert knowledge in community engagement, HIV/AIDS, learner support and Early Childhood Development.
Georgina obtained a B. ED Honours in Educational Psychology from the University of the Free State, she was an Educator for 17 years. She joined DOCKDA Kimberley in 2006 as Development Worker in their HIV programme until 2009.
Community development has always been a passion as seen in her work in the school, church and community as she believes in the upliftment and empowerment of women and youth. She is currently employed by the Commission for Gender Equality as an Education Officer. Georgina joined the DOCKDA Board in 2016.
Keitheng was born in Kuruman, where her family still lives, and is currently an Executive Manager for Transnet Freight Rail. She earned a Bsc Degree from Glasglow Caledonian University and a Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Town. She also holds a diploma in Train Driving, a Certificate from Rail Training International, and is a registered assessor with TETA (Transport Education Training Authority).
Keitheng joined the DOCKDA Board in 2016 because she is passionate about community development and serving the community in which she grew up by sharing her knowledge and leadership skills.
